OAK WILT MANAGEMENT

  • slide

Oak wilt is a serious disease of oaks, but especially live oaks and red oaks. If not managed, it will usually kill these species. Sam Hill Tree Care is a leader in diagnosis and management of oak wilt. We have multiple Texas Oak Wilt Qualified arborists on staff. We maintain a database of disease centers. We collaborate with plant pathologists and the Texas Forest Service on the assessment and management of the disease in the metroplex. The best management strategy is to avoid introducing the disease into your neighborhood by avoiding pruning between mid-February and mid-June. If pruning is required during that window due to storms or for other reasons, then all wounds should be immediately sealed with pruning sealer. Sam Hill Tree Care only uses the proven macro-infusion fungicide treatments as recommended by Texas A&M and the Texas Forest Service. Preventative applications are most effective and timing is critical.
