Arbortom® Tomograph

A tomograph uses sound impulses to evaluate the density of a tree’s trunk or branches. Often homeowners become concerned when a larger, well-established tree may appear to threaten the house or property if it were to fall during adverse weather conditions. Ultimately, this is a big concern that requires more information before making a final decision. “The Arbotom® tomograph unit provides an inside view of the tree that you simply can’t get from a visual inspection,” said SHTC founder, Sam Hill. “While this technology isn’t for every situation, it does identify hidden decay and cavity issues that may be affecting the structure and longevity of your tree.”

Oak Wilt Management

Oak wilt is a severe disease of oaks—especially live oaks and red oaks. If not managed, it will usually kill these species. Preventative applications are most effective and timing is critical. Sam Hill Tree Care is regional expert in diagnosing and managing oak wilt. We have multiple Texas Oak Wilt Qualified arborists on staff. Sam Hill Tree Care only uses proven macro-infusion fungicide treatments, as recommended by Texas A&M and the Texas Forest Service. Current best management practices dictate that oak trees should not be pruned between February 1st and June 30th. If pruning is required during that window, all wounds should be immediately sealed with pruning sealer.

Pruning

Are your trees looking a little wily? Feeling nervous about a big limb over your home? Our pruning experts can help. First, you'll meet with one of our ISA Certified Arborists® to discuss your pruning goals. Your arborist will evaluate your trees and develop pruning specifications to meet your objectives while enhancing the resilience and appearance of your tree. Finally, our production crews will prune your trees in accordance with ANSI A300 Standards and ISA Best Management Practices. Rinntech® Resistograph

A Resistograph® uses a long thin needle that is physically turned into the wood to measure possible decay. Similar to an EKG, the arborist receives data as to whether the tree is hollow, decayed, or solid. This tool is considered slightly invasive and is only used should the situation require it.

Cabling - Bracing

Despite their sturdy appearance, some trees occasionally need some supplemental support. These trees may have structural issues or conditions that increase the likelihood of failure of limbs, trunks, or entire trees. This failure could lead to personal injury or property damage. Sam Hill Tree Care can evaluate your tree and determine if cabling and/or bracing could reduce the risk and preserve the tree. Supplemental support systems are designed and installed in accordance with ANSI A300 Standards and ISA Best Management Practices.

Diagnosis

Sam Hill Tree Care will send an ISA Certified Arborist® to examine and diagnose the current conditions of your property and trees. Fertilization

Fertile soil is crucial to the health of your trees. However, many urban soils are deficient in essential nutrients due to construction activities, removal of leaf litter, and/or tie-up with soil contaminants. On the other hand, many trees receive improper amounts of some nutrients, fostering excessive growth that is prone to certain insect and disease outbreaks. After evaluating soil conditions and tree health, we can create a soil fertility program for your trees to correct deficiencies, maintain tree health, or even promote moderate growth.
